The main challenge in switching over to raw is having space to store the food. Unlike kibble, which can be put anywhere at room temperature, you will need some freezer storage space for your raw food, and must be able to safely thaw in the refrigerator the night before. If there are any concerns for pet parents when handling raw food, just keep in mind that you should handle the raw dog food just as you would normally handle raw meat for yourselves. Always wash your hands after handling raw food products, as well as all surfaces, utensils, and containers that have come into contact with raw food.
The quality of food at Canada Raw is of primary consideration. We only use top quality, human grade, growth hormone and antibiotic-free meats. Due to the fact that our parent company is a large butcher and wholesaler, we are able to purchase the raw meats at reasonable prices and pass these savings on to our customers.
We generally stick to the 80-10-10 rule ( 80 % protein, 10 % bone, and 10 % organ ) for our meat products, and have protein-only or complete meal options. Complete meals would consist of some fruit and vegetable, but not too much, making up only 10% of the meal.
As far as making the actual switch from kibble to raw, we recommend starting off with a gradual approach over the course of 4 days. Some pet parents have made an instant switch from one day to the next and their pets have been just fine, but it may be a little more tolerable to do the 4 day switch. We also recommend using a nutritional food supplement if you choose the protein only option.
We offer several formats of product for your convenience. We also have bulk options for a more cost effective approach. The following is a selection of protein options that are available from our menu:
Chicken Turkey Beef Lamb
